Still on the tools as we head toward the end of the year, so squeezing in one final post before 2026.

Another New Zealand R744 cold store project is now fully up and running, featuring an SCM Frigo CO₂ plant and delivering an excellent outcome on site.
This impressive installation was supplied by SCM Ref NZ and expertly installed by the experienced team at Technicool Refrigeration, adding yet another successful SCM R744 project to the growing list nationwide.
The system features two SCM Frigo racks with a combined capacity of 865 kW, delivering highly efficient refrigeration performance. Smart system design allows for the use of free glycol heating, enabling cost-effective defrosting through glycol-interlaced coils as well as underfloor heating.

The plant configuration includes:
A Holding rack servicing the storage freezer and ELA
A Blast rack, operating as a dedicated booster rack for the blast freezers

With 14 compressors on the Blast rack alone, it is an impressive sight and remarkably quiet, even when running at full capacity. When compared with equivalent synthetic or ammonia systems, the acoustic performance really stands out.
All plant has been designed for 80 bar on both MT and LT suction groups, providing real operational confidence. This design approach reduces stress during servicing or shutdowns and removes the need for resilience units and generators.

With 82 transcritical R744 plant sets now operating across New Zealand, the SCM brand continues its steady growth, supported by local parts availability and a nationwide technical team.

Happy days with R744, and we’re looking forward to many more projects in 202
